Taking the Leap Is the Easy Part. Here’s What Nobody Warns You About
The leap is one brave second. Staying is the real work.
I almost quit three weeks ago. Floor of the bedroom, talking to the ceiling, “okay, I’m done” quit. And I’ve read people and patterns for thirty-five years. I’m supposed to be the one who knows.
So let me tell you what I actually know now.
After wanting to quit hundreds of times, and still being here.
We say “no risk, no reward” like the risk is the scary part.
It isn’t.
Taking the leap is one brave second.
Anybody can find one brave second; quit the job, send the text, swipe the card.
The hard part is the thing nobody warns you about. It’s about staying in it.
Getting back up after the ninth, the nineteenth, the ninetieth time doesn’t work.
Most people quit one failure too early. They quit, right before it clicks.
In my early 20’s, I learned this the hard way. Fresh out of art school, I took an unpaid Broadway illustration job just for the experience. Poured myself into it, handed the work over, and got — nothing. No pay, no thank you.Crickets. But that “free” job taught me the thing that mattered most: I could do the work when nobody clapped.
Three rooms where the leap lives
For almost all of us, this shows up in three rooms.
Career, the pivot you keep almost making.
Love, the first move you won’t make, or the comfortable relationship whose spark quietly died years ago.
Money, betting real dollars on yourself.
Notice which one made your stomach drop just now. That’s not anxiety. That’s information. That’s the room your life is pointing at.
Five tools to stay in it
When every cell in your body says run, reach for these. I call them the 5MQ.
Clarity. Most fear is just blur. “What if it all falls apart” , falls apart how, exactly?
Name the real risk and the real reward, specifically. Clarity turns the lights on.
Intuition. Your body knows before your brain catches up. Fear is loud and frantic. Intuition is quiet and steady. It doesn’t argue. It just knows.
Evidence. When your mind says, “this will never work, who do you think you are,” fight it with receipts. You have survived one hundred percent of your worst days. The pattern isn’t punishment, it’s information.
Belief. The quiet story that whispers “people like me don’t get this” is the one that drags you back to safe. You don’t have to believe it’ll definitely work. You just have to believe you’re allowed to try.
Action. Not the giant jump. The next small step. One email. One honest sentence. A few dollars moved toward the dream instead of away from it.
Momentum beats a cold start every time.Faith is the thread
Underneath all five is Faith. Not the certainty kind. The kind that lets you take the step before you can see the whole staircase. You get one stair. Maybe a railing. You move your foot anyway, trusting the next one lands when your weight does.
That’s manifestation. Not wishing on a vision board. It’s doing the work of those five dimensions with enough faith to keep going before the evidence shows up, and then watching it show up because you kept going.
The leap doesn’t reward the certain. There’s no such thing as certain. It rewards the ones who keep moving in the dark.
So this week, pick your room. Take one small, brave step. Not the leap; the next stair.
